I am a Community Ambassador for Positive Change in North Charleston!
To Whom Much is Given, Much Will Be Required (Luke 12:48)
The Bridge Builder by Will Allen Dromgoole
------------------------------------------------------------------
An old man, going a lone highway,
Came at the evening cold and gray
To a chasm vast and deep and wide
Through which was flowing a swollen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The rapids held no fears for him.
But he turned when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.
“Old man,” cried a fellow pilgrim near,
“You’re wasting your time in building here.
Your journey will end with the closing day;
You never again will pass this way.
You have crossed the chasm deep and wide;
Why build you this bridge at even-tide?”
The builder lifted his old gray head.
“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,
“There follows after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
This stream, which has been as naught to me,
To that fair youth may a pitfall be.
He too must cross in the twilight dim --
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him.”

I am blessed to be surrounded by great family, great administrators, great coaches, great teachers and great friends that comprise a community that has facilitated my success as a student, an athlete, a leader, and a champion.
I am well aware that my blessings come with great responsibility to do for the community in the same manner as the community has done for me. I believe in the words contained in Luke 12:48. I am a product of the people in my community who not only believe in these words as well, but similarly to me, convert this biblical verse to community action.
I have come to the realization that my purpose in life is to be a bridge builder for students similar to myself, whose life through no fault of their own began in an environment that is 100% associated with Title I (additional funding to schools based on the financial circumstances of its students), government subsidies for necessities such as food (free breakfast and lunch programs), clothing (low cost/no cost distribution) and shelter (Section 8, monthly rent is based on income and not the market). It is for these foregoing reasons that my class in Entrepreneurship became one of the most meaningful academic and humanitarian experiences thus far in my life.
The class was a thinking out of the box State of South Carolina Career and Technical Education work based learning course whose pedagogy and outcomes occurred 90% out of the traditional classroom environment. The course directly impacted elementary and middle school students from schools that were performing in the BOTTOM 5% of their peers in the State of South Carolina.
Working everyday as a LegacyCreators Community Ambassador at North Charleston High School allowed me to share my knowledge and experience as a peer mentor, a soft shoulder with an empathetic voice.
